Churchill’s Fine Teas
Cincinnati, Ohio–Cincinnati may be best known for its craft beer, but there’s a different type of brewing that’s garnering attention for one local company. Churchill's Fine Teas at Findlay Market recently won first place in the Flavored Black Tea category of a global tea competition for its lemon-infused black tea. “Lemon Drops” is created with mountain-grown Ceylon black tea, Australian lemon myrtle, and lemon peel, providing a rich, creamy lemon flavor from natural ingredients. The decaffeinated version of Lemon Drops has been served at the Taft Museum of Art during its formal afternoon tea.
Churchill’s, which specializes in premium, mountain-grown, organic, and organic-compliant teas from around the world, has been operating out of Findlay Market for eight years and sells 265 teas—the largest tea selection in the Midwest, says founder and co-owner Kathleen Kern.
The company also sells tea gift sets and accessories, and offers tastings and classes the third Thursday of each month from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This includes a “Learn About Tea, Learn About the World” program through which customers can learn more about the origins and customs of tea such as the English Afternoon Tea, the Chinese art of the Gongfu Tea Ceremony, the Japanese Tea Ceremony, or masala chai.
Owners Kathleen and Jerry Kern have traveled around the world experiencing tea traditions firsthand so they can bring the finest and freshest loose-leaf teas from the world’s best tea gardens back to Cincinnati. They also personally taste every tea they offer to ensure it meets their quality requirements.
