Findlay Kitchen
Do you have a food-based business idea, but don’t know where to start? Findlay Market’s Charlotte & Edward Unnewehr Findlay Kitchen, might be the perfect fit for you.
It has 10 commercial kitchens with large-scale equipment, storage space, and a plethora of other resources for its members. Kitchen director Marianne Hamilton and kitchen manager Anthony Berin help members draw up business plans, execute catering deals, and even facilitate product distribution.
“The incubation concept isn’t just about access, but about business services,” Hamilton says. Findlay Kitchen offers ground-level support for business owners who have passion and an idea, and helps connect them with the resources they need to be successful. On top of kitchen space and business growth opportunities, the Kitchen also provides space for tastings, events, and classes hosted by members that are open to the public.
“When I saw that Findlay Kitchen was opening, I took my crackers to Joe Hansbauer and told him I wanted in,” says Tiffany Wise, owner of The Healing Kitchen. With the Kitchen’s help, Wise has turned her love of cooking and healthy food into a thriving business that specializes in local and organic products like flaxseed crackers, cashew butter, and fermented veggies. She calls joining Findlay Kitchen one of the best decisions she’s made.
Findlay Kitchen has helped Wise expand her business—she now sells her products at a number of local markets, including Dirt: A Modern Market at Findlay Market and Park + Vine. Her next step is getting her crackers into restaurants as a gluten-free substitute for bread.
All of the Kitchen’s members are growing together, as is the Kitchen itself. With 52 current members, the Kitchen has room to accommodate 90 members. That’s 90 new food entrepreneurs bringing great food to the community.
